Next Mission Trip
11/5/2009
WATOTO GULU

We are in the process of planning our 2009 Heart For Africa Missions trip to Gulu, Uganda, Africa. We will leave from Minot, North Dakota on November 5th, 2009 and return on November 19th, 2009. We will be building, working with orphans, and doing outreach. Every team member will need to raise $1000 for the building project. The money for the building project must be sent to Uganda by August to allow time for the African builders to lay foundations and make the bricks. Airline tickets will cost about $1500 for each individual. We will be purchasing our tickets as a group to save money. Our first layover is Minneapolis, then Amsterdam, and on to our final destination which is Kampala, Uganda. We will spend two days in Kampala at a guest home and then on to Gulu by bus. It will take us about 7 hours to reach our destination. Lodging, food, and transportation is $100 per day (about 6 days). About 5 of the days are spent in Kampala, which will cost us $60 per day. While in Kampala we will have an opportunity to visit Watoto Village, the Bulrushes orphanage, and do some shopping. One of the days there will be an opportunity to fish, go white water rafting, or go touring. The last three days we will go on a safari and stay two nights at a beautiful remote lodge on the Nile River. We will do a land tour and a boat tour down the Nile River. You will have a chance to see giraffes, elephant, hippo’s, lions, and many other animals. You must have a current passport and all your shots to travel with the team. If you are interested in going on a trip that will change your life forever, please contact me at the email below.

* The deadline for applying for the trip is July 1st, 2009.

UGANDA
Watoto Village

The Need:

Uganda has endured brutal dictators, the scourge of civil war and the deadly AIDS epidemic. An estimated 2 million children in Uganda have been orphaned by these calamities, 880,000* of them as a result of AIDS alone. (*UNAIDS stats)

The country is still reeling from a past of corruption, brutality and oppression. The economy is improving, but still struggling. Social services are scarce, water and sanitation systems are unavailable to most, and poverty and disease are prevalent. Every day, scores of children are orphaned and abandoned in the streets. The government is not equipped to provide care for them. Private baby homes and adoption centers can't keep up and are themselves unable to provide long term care for the children. This is the reality that is Uganda. The situation is dire. The need is great. The future is changing!

Watoto was born out of this need. It is addressing this crisis and is providing hope for the nation.
